Breaking Generational Curses: Manuel Benage’s Incredible Story

- 09:00

One man’s constant battle with childhood trauma, to then becoming an entrepreneur helping thousands of people with their mental health, is a living testament to us all that anything is possible.

Overcoming Trauma

In February’s episode, Philly had the absolute privilege to sit down with Manuel Benage: entrepreneur and founder of the Athletic Minds Foundation, an amazing charity borne out of Manuel’s own complex experience with trauma starting from when he was just a child.

In this two-part series, Philly and Manuel delve into his chaotic and emotionally neglectful childhood. From being abused whilst in care, to dealing with the suicide of a best-friend, the death of his brother and so much more, all of this pressure eventually led to Manuel having a mental breakdown after a holiday in Ibiza.

Battling with the sheer weight of all of this trauma, Manuel eventually attempted to take his own life. But little did he know that all of these experiences would result in the Athletic Minds Foundation being born. Originally started in 2018, the charity offers programmes that include a unique eight-week mental wellness course, physical fitness activities, holistic classes, mental health workshops, suicide prevention and intervention, coping with loss and grief, a community wellness hub, free counselling and online support. Formerly known as GetFit4MentalWellness, the charity has supported nearly 100,000 individuals by empowering them to lead healthier, happier lives.

Manuel’s story is an incredible testament to the sheer power of resilience and never giving up.

He is a living example of what it means to be a true superhero in today’s world, and a breaker of generational curses.
